You are invited to attend our Patient and Public Interest Group (PAPIG) meeting which will be held online on Friday November 29th.

Patient and Public Interest Group (PAPIG) is made up of patients, carers, patient advocates and third sector organisations. The group feeds their views via the All Wales Therapeutics and Toxicology Group (AWTTC), who provide professional, technical and administrative support to the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG). One of the roles of AWMSG is to advise Welsh Government on whether new medicines should be available for use in NHS Wales.

You can find out more about their work in the patient section of their website, including information on PAPIG.

The next PAPIG meeting will be held online on Friday, November 29th. The theme for this meeting is medicine adherence (i.e. correctly following the prescribing advice when taking a medicine). It is thought that between a third and a half of all medicines prescribed for long‑term conditions are not taken as recommended which can lead to reduced clinical benefit and generates significant waste. Understanding why people may not take their medicines in the recommended way, and supporting and involving people in decisions about their prescribed medicines are key to encouraging adherence.

Hear speakers talk about this topic and also a chance to share your views.

Presentations at the meeting include

  • Your Medicines, Your Health campaign – helping people in Wales get the most out of their medicines (Claire Thomas, AWTTC)
  • Why we behave in the way that we do? How understanding health psychology can help support adherence (Dr Sarah Brown, Cardiff Metropolitan University)
  • KidzMedz Cymru – improving medicine adherence in children by teaching them how to safely swallow pills (Bethan Davis, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board)

They would very much like to hear the views and experiences of patients and carers and so there will be time for discussion and questions.

If you would like to join the next PAPIG meeting please register online or by email awttc@wales.nhs.uk.
